This site is in a very raw state at the moment, It is under construction, and will be heavily modified in the coming months. I am thinking about purchasing a battery powered set of tools. Something similar to the DeWalt 18v kits that seem to be everywhere. What brands do you have experience with? Which brands do you recommend? What is good? Bad? Any help will be appreciated. I will be starting a page with links to the best articles and websites that I find that deal with homesteading. This will cover a number of subjects, like Yurts, Log Cabins, construction, housing and care of animals, etc. Basically anything that we will have to deal with in getting WilderWolf set up the way that we want it. If you have a favorite site that you would like to see listed, post it in the comments and I will add it to the list.
Test post from phone A lot has happened in the time since I last posted here and it would take way to much time and space to fill you in on everything that we have done in the many months since I last posted. We have made an offer on a house in Idaho and will hopefully be moving soon. We will be calling our new place WilderWolf. I will be doing a lot of research on the improvements that we want to make, and posting the results here with pictures and links to future projects. They will be posted here because I do not want to clog the WilderWolf site with a bunch of technical information. TW Thursday night when the news of the 8.9 earthquake in Japan started to come in, we, like many people were looking for information. We live in an industrial area, in a metal building so we get almost no TV stations. I took my battery powered TV out front and we sat there amazed at the reports and video coming out of Sendai. When we came back in I was able to find some live coverage on the internet, but not a lot. I had no idea were to go for coverage. As a prepper I see this as a major hole in my preps. In the event of a disaster any where in the world, I want to be able to find the information and news coverage I need to be informed. I do not want to be Googling news sources when a disaster hits, I want to have the websites I need already bookmarked, and I want them on my laptops, my Tablet, my phone and my I-pod and on a thumbdrive running Firefox or Google portable applications. I laid in bed listening to the radio and the news coverage of the Tsunami and decided that I needed to gather together as many news sources as I could. This morning before work, I was checking the forums that I belong to and of course there where a few posts about the earthquake. Some people had posted some links to various sources for news coverage. I also found out that a dear friend has family in the Sendai and was frantically trying to find out if her family members are OK. One of my coworkers has a daughter who is on the Island of Okinawa, and he was able to get right through to her this morning. Researching what is available on the internet I have come up with these sites that I found to be helpful. This is the Emergency E-mail and Wireless Network. You can input the state that you live in and get emergency notifications sent to your e-mail and phone. This is the U.S. Geological Survey main page. There is a ton of information here, everything from Avian Influenza to Wildfires. This is a link to justin.tv . They have CNN International, MSNBC, BBC World News, and quite a few local stations. This is VueToo . You can look at the websites of the major television networks, as well as major newspapers from all over the country. This site can be customized to see what you want. I need to play with it some more to see how I like it. I am going to do this post in a series, I can see that it is going to take some time to get the information that I want all together and sort out which sites are the most valuable. This will be part of my weekend research. If you have any sites that you use and you think should be included in this list please post a link in the comments section. TW This week was a busy week at work. The construction industry is still very slow, but we are seeing more projects up for bid in the last month. Not the multi million dollar jobs of a few years ago, but hey work is work. I did a bunch of research on some things that I want to write about soon. I have some good ideas for some posts, but I want to do some more research on them. I downloaded Gary Veynerchuk’s book CRUSH IT, and a book called BREAKTHROUGH – How the 10 Greatest Discoveries in Medicine Saved Millions and Changed Our View of the World by Jon Queijo. I l love all kinds of history, and am looking forward to reading this one. Yesterday we had our monthly TSP meet-up. This month we were shooting in Burro Canyon. We had 24 people there, the largest group ever. We even had 4 kids under 10 years old, and they were great kids, it was great seeing them shooting and having fun. TW I finally started using Twitter. You can follow me here. The Wilderness TW This has been a busy week for both of us. Tiffany set up her design business, Tiffany Rockwell Designs. She did such a good job, and already it is starting to pay off for her. She wants to be able to work from wherever we end up moving to, and this will help her to do that. We are both trying to pay better attention to our blogs than we have in the past, as well as following and supporting our friends blogs. Tiff is so much better at blogging than I am, but I am hoping that some of her coolness rubs off on me. I have 184 blog feeds in my rss feeder, that I read everyday. I will be cross posting occasionally some of the more interesting or useful things that I come across in my readings. There are a lot of really good blogs out there and every once in a while I find some really useful things that i will share with you here. I just started reading Crush It, by Gary Vaynerchuk. This guy is awesome, he says it like it is. I will post a review when I am finished reading it. I am enjoying it so much that Tiff and I are going to go hear him speak later this month. TW |
