The DeWalt kits are great. However I went with Ryobi in 18 volt and it has lasted me going on 7 years and 6 of those years were daily use in construction, my own handyman business and family home repairs. I am getting ready to get replace the older one as I would like a second set as back up but this time I am going to try their lithium-ion series. The newer batteries are backwards compatible with the prior model. Looks like you will need them with all of those tiny houses to build...lol.

Garith, happy Thanksgiving to you and Anna as well. I hope that your Grandfather gets well soon.

I think a day at Burro Canyon is a great idea.

Jose, it is good to see you here buddy. The house has its own well, and we will be looking into backup power for it right away. I made a post tonight on WilderWolf about some ideas we have for the place. If you have a chance to check it out I would love to hear what you think about our plans.

I agree that we need to get together before we leave. We miss you guys. There is a TSP meetup this Saturday if you are not doing anything we would love to see you.

Hey TW,
Good to see you are finding a place. The first pic looks great. Is this house on city water or a well. Your 1st project if it is a well is back up power to pump your water (water the stuff of life :-). Other wise looking forward to your project list.

Before you two move we have to get together and do something, maybe another trip to Burro Canyon?

Thanks for that link collection -- good plan!

Regarding the emergency weather channels: the official broadcasts are on VHF at 162.400, 162.425, 162.450, 162.475, 162.500, 162.525, or 162.550 MHz (depending on your location). Your ham radios might be able to receive these.

If you want a radio that automatically turns on when an alarm is broadcast, you need a unit with "SAME" ("Specific Alert Message Encoding"), which lets you program what location(s) you care about and what specific alerts you want to hear/ignore. A radio without SAME will drive you nutty with weekly tests and Amber Alerts and cancellations of warnings and so forth.

This should be causing us to take a more serious look at the ham radios we already have, don't you think? There's an emergency weather channel there (somewhere), and even if we didn't want to chatter, we could listen to what other ham operators are saying about the disaster. I'll see if I can get some local Southern California channels together for ya. I'll list them here when I find them.

Not the multi million dollar jobs of a few years ago, but hey work is work.

Work is indeed work. I'm glad to see it picking up a little bit too. I don't see how things could get much worse without the company going under.

I'm excited about Gary's book. Vaynerchuk is definitely an inspiration to me. I'm not built to be "on" all the time the way he is, but I still think that success is possible.

Yesterday we had our monthly TSP meet-up. This month we were shooting in Burro Canyon. We had 24 people there, the largest group ever. We even had 4 kids under 10 years old, and they were great kids, it was great seeing them shooting and having fun.

Yeah, that was fricking awesome. My favorite part regarding the kids was the incredible safety involved with their parents. They either had their hands on their kids shoulders, and were making absolutely sure that the guns were pointed down-range, or the kids had no access to the weapons. It was PHENOMENAL. I'd trust them and their family out on the range any day.
